Sean Hall and Nathan Butler are suing Taylor Swift over lyrics used in her 2014 hit “Shake It Off.” Butler and Hall wrote lyrics for the 2001 track “Playas Gon’ Play” by the group 3LW. The lyrics in 3LW’s song are:

“Playas, they gonna play. And haters, they gonna hate. Ballers, they gonna ball. Shot callers, they gonna call.”

Taylor Swift’s lyrics are:

“Players gonna play play play play play and the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate. Baby I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I shake it off, I shake it off.”

Similar, but there’s no case here. Taylor Swift is not the only artist to use the phrase “haters gonna hate.” Hall and Butler do not realize how many tracks have been made since then that have that phrase in it. Case dismissed.
